MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT XENOPHOBIA.

Hi guys, how are you all doing? I hope fine! A lot happened last week especially to Nigerians living in south africa. It has been heart breaking to say the least. My heart goes out to all those who who have lost some one or people. I pray that God will comfort them in this very difficult time.

With all that has happened/still happening, I have noticed on social media that there are some misconceptions about Xenophobia. Which prompted me to write this post.

The first misconception is that xenophobia is black killing blacks. And trust me when I say that I have heard aloooot of that lol! I can understand why one would think so, but that is not entirely right. According to cambridge dictionary , xenophobia is the extreme dislike or fear of foreigners, their customs, their religions etc. 

The second misconception, is that it is a black person/people’s thing. Nah boo it isn’t. The definition above , tells us that it can happen to anybody irrespective of your race/colour as long as you are a foreigner in a country. That’s if it’s not even happening already.

Third misconception, is that violence is the solution. I understand that our leaders haven’t really done much in respect to these attacks, which has made people take laws into their hands. I have seen clips of mtn, shoprite outlets being burnt while this might seem right, lives have actually been lost. It’s just like repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

My last point is not a misconceptions, I just want to state the obvious, the recent xenophobic attack is not because a south African taxi driver was killed by a black (cause there is no proof that it was Nigerian) this was just an Avenue to attack us . There are underlying issues that must be tackled in order to stop this menace.
