UPDATE!!!

PICNIC

It's that time of the year when the weather is best for outdoor activities especially picnics. This picnic was organised by the church and it took place on Sunday,11th of August. Instead of the usual Sunday service it was replaced with the picnic which was a bright idea if you ask me because everybody interacted irrespective of their age, skin colour (whether black or white). We were supposed to leave at exactly 9:20 am, although there was a bus waiting to pick us up at a particular bus station but as usual, trust we Nigerians, we had to come at our own time 'African time'. I was also late which wasn't a good thing,(but chai it runs in our blood so quit fighting it and lets embrace it) just kidding. So we finally arrived at the venue where it was meant to take place. It was hilly with tall trees, well-cut grasses, wide landscape and a very large river which made me remember a show in Nigeria (The gulder ultimate search) which I thought was cool. It kicked off properly with the opening prayer followed by a sermon which was brief there was baptism for those who haven't been baptized. They were immersed fully into the river. Songs were sang during the baptism, it was a different way of baptism for me because as a catholic we just sprinkle water on the head and they were congratulated.

It was finally time for the food which was my best part. Blankets were laid on the grasses and the food was arranged in the middle, we all sat across the food facing each other( it  looked like the last supper) .We shared the grace before meal and we started devouring it. We all ate like one big happy family, you know how they normally say football brings everybody together, nah this time it was the food that brought us all together, jokes were shared and we all had a good laugh, in fact, food they say is the primary purpose of a social gathering. There were all kinds of food: fried rice, chicken, Jollof rice, fruits, drink, cake, biscuits, and so on and the food was in excess we had riddles & jokes, bible quiz, talent show then it was time for games there were so many games and we were divided into groups so we played as a team and this brought co- operation and togetherness.
The picnic ended with a vote of thanks and prizes were awarded to all the participants who took part in food contest and in other events like the talent show, choreography, drama, sports and we all went home with happy memories.
